The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Blessed Virgin Mary, by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, ca. 1767-69

On this the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, let us pray to Mary who experienced deeply in her person, from the moment of her conception in the womb of St. Anne, by a unique and singular grace that looked forward to the salvation gained for us by her Son, God's saving power:

Father,
the image of the Virgin
is found in the Church.
Mary had a faith that your Spirit prepared
and a love that never knew sin,
for you kept her sinless
from the moment of her conception.
Trace in our actions
the lines of her love,
in our hearts her readiness of faith.
Prepare once again a world for your Son
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit
one God forever and ever. Amen.

Remember, O Blessed Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided...
