Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Today is also the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

So, even though not offcially a penitential day, due to this solemnity, we humbly implore: Heart of Jesus, burning furnace of charity- have mercy on us.

Father,
we honor the heart of your Son
broken by man's cruelty,
yet symbol of love's triumph,
pledge of all that man is called to be.
Teach us to see Christ in the lives we touch,
to offer him living worship
by love-filled service to our brothers and sisters.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

  1. What a beautiful prayer. Did you write it? If not, where did you find it? I didn't even know today was a solemnity. Thank you for sharing this with me and everyone else!!

  2. Allison:

It is the prayer at the end of Morning Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours for today. Like all things connected to our sacred, yet public, work, it is truly part of our beautiful inheritance, imparted to us by means of the communio sanctorum, which does not merely mean "communion of saints," but more accurately the communion of sacred people and things, indicating that God, who can only call "our Father" because of Jesus Christ uses everything to draw us to Himself, as Don Gius teaches us.

  3. Excuse me, I would like to ask. I never heard Giussani speak about Dorothy Day. But he was in USA in the same years when she worked there. May be you know about his opinion about Catholic warker movement?

  4. Igor: To my knowledge Don Gius never met Dorothy Day nor commented on the Catholic Worker Movement. However, Msgr Albacete recently wrote an article on Dorothy Day "Dorothy Day and the Catholic Movement" that you might be interested in reading.

Also, a very dear and close friend of mine, Kim, who is the Movement, know quite a lot about the Day and the Catholic Workers from a CL perspective. She and I have discussed in detail the compatibility of Day's Catholic anarchism and the Movement.
