St. Ambrose

Posted by Msgr. Mark Langham, Administrator of Westminster Cathedral, London, is this study of St. Ambrose, which was executed by artist Sandro Kopp. It is based on the study of near-contemporary mosaics of this great bishop of Milano, home of Don Giussani, who, a dear friend reminded me this evening, told us that "feelings are like lenses ...you have to have reason put them in the right place".

Is it just me, or does Kopp's Ambrose bear a striking resemblance to the brilliant actor, Daniel Day Lewis, the only bright spot in the otherwise unmemorable Scorsese film, Gangs of New York?

  1. Beautiful painting.

Small resemblance I think. But I always picture Lewis as Hawkeye, in The Last of the Mohicans. :)
