I was particularly interested in how they highlighted Catholic healthcare and unions; that's an issue I've thought about before as one day, I hope, I'll work at one of these hospitals myself (ultrasound tech is the goal). It's also good to remind myself that phrases like "the working class" (not to mention unions themselves) don't have to be weapons or enemies. My own background is largely working-class, but it never meant very much to me until I got married and discovered that some of my husband's relatives considered any education beyond a high school diploma to be a calculated insult towards "real people" (themselves, of course).

You sound a lot like my dad - he was also in the first college-going generation and majored in philosophy; now he's a programmer (he says that Boolean logic is extremely useful for learning to program). When we were little he would cut out articles from newspapers and magazines and have us read them to see if we could spot the logical fallacies. It didn't turn any of us into philosophers, but it did make reading the editorials much more interesting, if rather depressing :).Sonetkanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8254272216866737058.post-11826447144729115972009-09-05T22:38:03.825-06:002009-09-05T22:38:03.825-06:00Thanks for your great insight.Your Dad sounds awes...Thanks for your great insight.

Your Dad sounds awesome. He is correct: logic- Boolean, informal, elementary formal, modal, etc. is the best education one can receive. We did a lot of programming.Dcn Scott Dodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09994604395739905637noreply@blogger.com
